In setting up a new relationship and ending an old one, where is the line between realization and ship/char bashing?

What I mean is let’s say I’m writing a fic where C2 and C3 get together but it is set in a season where C1 and C2 are together. If C2 realizes the relationship is not working out, is trying to justify the breakup to themselves, where is the line where it is serving the story vs. bashing? Is there a line? (And feel free to link this so I get a variety of replies, not just from friends, though you all are A-MAH-ZING)

Also, anyone have some time to beta one maybe two 5 things fics for me this weekend, preferably someone who has a good Spike voice cause my Spike voice is lousy?

Before I begin my review, there are a few things I need to get off my chest. First off, I LIKE the idea of remakes. (Notice IDEA). They offer additional source material to draw from for fannish activities, they bring new people to fandom, and they rekindle interest in the older source material. Sometimes they are horrible (Starsky and Hutch), sometimes they are decent (Charlie's Angels), sometimes they are awesome (Star Trek. The whole AU idea is genius). So when it comes to remakes, I am not one of these people who screams NO! (Like with the possible Buffy remake). As a HUGE fan of the original Fright Night, I know a few other fans were not happy with the remake or even the suggestion of one.

Second, the elephant in the room. Marti Noxon wrote the screenplay. And while she gets blamed for the attempted rape in Seeing Red, at the end of the day, Joss had to approve that storyline. I'm not absolving blame from Noxon in the slightest but I think several reviews I have read are trying to use their dislike of Noxon from BTVS to color their review of Fright Night. I'm not.

For those who want to remain spoiler free I will just say this GO SEE THIS MOVIE )

EXCLUSIVE: Charisma Carpenter: "You Need To Get It Out That I'm A Proud Latina!"

By Lee Hernandez | 07/20/2011 - 20:10

Her name is Charisma Carpenter and she’s best known for playing all-American cheerleader Cordelia Chase on the hit TV show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But there’s something many people don’t know about Charisma—she’s Latina! “I think it’s the best kept secret ever,” said the sweet actress, whose grandfather was born in Spain. “You need to get it out that I’m a proud Latina!”

Charisma says she’s been trying to tell people she’s Latina for years—but they don’t believe her. “They’re not buying it,” she says. “I feel a little rejected by the Latina community. I say that in jest—I don’t sincerely mean it. But I mean…a little bit.”

The talented actress, who has a huge fan base for her work on Buffy and its spinoff, Angel, thinks she knows why people don’t believe she’s Latina. ”I guess I’m too white, too pale,” she says. “I guess they’ve never seen me tan…I don’t know.”

The 40-year-old actress says she wasn’t raised speaking Spanish—but there’s a reason for that. “My grandfather had a pretty terrible experience being in America and being from Spain,” she says sounding a bit more serious. “He came to this country as an immigrant with his family. He was a crop picker: strawberries, cotton, all that kind of stuff. And what would happen back in those days is that parents would go away and send their small children to a boarding house or an orphanage.”

Charisma says it must have been a crooked operation because her abuelo was smuggled out of the orphanage in the middle of the night, with his aunt, and adopted out to an American family who mistreated, mocked, and humiliated them. “{They} thought it was so precious and adorable that they spoke Spanish. They would make them sing in Spanish in front of their friends. Their friends would come over and they were the entertainment, so to speak,” she says.

Charisma says the ordeal was very painful for her grandfather. “He was embarrassed by it, so he chose to forget the {Spanish} language,” she says. “He refused to speak it. So my parents weren’t raised speaking Spanish.”

Still, Charisma says she managed to learn Spanish on her own. “I took Spanish since I was in the sixth grade and I lived in Mexico for a couple of years {her dad relocated there for work} when I was in high school,” she says. “I went to a school that had a strong Latino environment in Southern San Diego—about six miles from the border, so I {grew up} in the culture.”

This weekend, Charisma says she’s attending a Latino film festival in support of the new film, Without Men, which stars Latinas Eva Longoria, Judy Reyes, and Kate Del Castillo. “I’m going to support Eva!” she says enthusiastically.

We know Angel likes hockey...

But what team do you think he would root for?

Thinking in a writers' room way, would they have made him a Flyers fan since David Boreanaz is a huge Flyers nut or you think they would have made him go for The Kings (or maybe The Ducks) since that would be the closest team?

What about being a basketball fan? Those games are played indoors and at night. I think he would probably be a Lakers fan, proximity and all. Or again, use DB and have Angel a fan of the 76ers (Oh poor Angelbear, he has suffered enough. At least it's not the Nets right?)

He is just such an alpha male type that I think, in my personal head canon, that he watches Sportscenter every night. He probably never goes to games because of all the people but he totally ordered a sports package from his cable provider.

After a long discussion and hemming and hawwing, my husband and I decided to get a Wii with our tax return. So far we Indiana Jones 2 and Mario Kart. If anyone has suggestions for games, I'm all ears. And if someone has a Wii and wants our friend code, just let me know. :)

Lifewise, I'm just busy with grad school and attempting to write my C/A fic for the Valentine's Day Smut-A-Thon. I have a pretty good idea and outline, I just need to sit down and write it.

Miss you guys. I can't wait for summer when I can actually be around and do fandom stuff.
