Spuffy Poll Tiems

While I have been reading LJ, I haven't been participating much in terms of commenting because of graduate school slash real life. But it seems to me, in my very narrow flist reading, that there has been some debate the past few weeks over Spuffy.

As in do people who ship Spuffy side with Spike more or Buffy more? Do they hate Buffy? Do they hate Spike? Do they woobify Spike too much? I could go on and on. I love seeing these kind of debates, that we are still talking in this fandom about these things.

It really got me to thinking about Spuffy lately as I drive the 90 minutes to and 90 minutes back from campus. This is the poll I came up with, the one that I think really needs to be asked of the Spuffy fandom (and of those who think about Spuffy as a ship, positive or negative)

[Poll #1836081]

For those too young to remember

Feel free to expand on your answers in comments.

But debaters gonna debate. I'm just glad Ganya's my forever Buffy OTP, way fewer fights.

I can't say I'm a Ganya shipper but I would have loved to have seen more done with them on the show. Xander and Anya were ok, but Giles and Anya were BRILLIANT in Tabula Rasa, and would have made such a dynamic couple.

Ok, so maybe I do ship them Any good fic you can recommend?

I also would have loved more Giles/Joyce but that probably would have been too vanilla in retrospect. (OTOH, I wanted Joyce to have her own life, including love life, and not just be "Buffy's mom". A girl can dream.)

I think what makes me ship them even harder than just everything in Tabula Rasa has been:
1.) Who would know more about demons than Giles?
2.) It would look like Giles was ~robbing the cradle~ whereas Anya was really about 1,000 years older than him.
3.) Grave. There was hand and hair touching! No spell or memory loss required.

As for recs - basically everything here: http://gilesanya-fic.livejournal.com/

But my absolute favorite is: Cross Road Blues - massive angst warning though

Oh yum! Thank you - I started Cross Road Blues and am loving it. Angst? It's right up my alley (why else would S6 be my favorite?)

Yay! You're welcome. :D

And double yay for not being the only one who loves S6!

Oh I thought i was the only one because my first exposure to fandom was on the ATV club episode reviews where a lot of the commentary threads actually ended up being about AtS, and the general consensus was "the early seasons were awesome, the later ones crap" (repeated ad nauseum.) So I was surprised when I came to LJ and discovered pockets of fandom with a completely different attitude.

Have you seen the Lj community "Late Season Love"?

Yeah, most people do seem to hate S6, but I'm definitely not one of them. I could never hate the season that gave us that much Spuffy and Giles/Anya.

No, I haven't.

Again, it really depends where you "hang out" as I found out quickly - I was thrilled to find people who appreciated S6 on LJ and that's why I opened an account here - to be able to interact with like minds. (The "general fandom" went on about how AWFUL Doublemeat Palace is, for instance. Are they insane? I've never worked in fast food but retail has much the same feel, the same soullessness about it, so it felt so familiar.) And yes to spuffy, and Giles/Anya, and Tabula Rasa - so funny AND heartbreaking.

Oh, and I find a greater appreciation of S4 in these parts as well - I think that season deserves serious re-evaluation.
